How GreenScope works in practice

GreenScope gives you three flexible options for barcode-based tracking, so you can choose the level of detail that suits your organisation:

Option 1: Simple tracking (no individual bag tracking)

This is the most straightforward way to track performance when deep traceability is not required: Create one barcode per tenant, user or waste stream. Scan that same barcode every time waste is weighed. Print it once and reuse it. Works with standard bin bags purchased from any supplier This approach removes the need for pre-printed bags, supplier lock-in, and complex tag systems. It is ideal for multi-tenant buildings, facilities teams and contractors who want reliable reporting without operational complexity.

Option 2: Full bag traceability

If you want to track individual waste bags end to end. Import unique barcodes into GreenScope. Assign them to specific users or waste streams. Scan each bag at the scale. The key difference with GreenScope is that you can buy barcodes or pre-printed bags from any supplier and import them yourself. You are not tied to expensive, long-term contracts or limited vendor choices.

Option 3: Generate barcodes within GreenScope

GreenScope allows you to generate unique barcodes directly in the platform. You then decide how to handle them. Print labels locally and apply them as bags are weighed. Send barcodes to a professional label printer. Print barcodes directly onto bin bags. Switch suppliers if costs or quality change. This option gives you the most flexibility and control, especially for organisations managing multiple sites or complex tenant mixes. To help prevent mistakes or misuse, barcode generation and ordering can be subject to approval workflows within the platform.
